my first blog entry

this is new to me. i wasnt planning on creating a blog today, and i probably wont tell anyone about it today either. i dont know why, i just have to sit on it and think about it for a while. i dont know exactly what to write about just yet so i might recall an interesting thing that happened to me recently. when i say interesting i could also mean intriguing, but im getting ahead of myself,
the story begins when it began, the date is irrelevant, what is relevant is the jumper i happened to be wearing that day and the shopping centre i chose to visit.
its a medium sized poly-woolen blend pullover with thick black and indescribable green lines running horizontally up it. ive had it for ages and i really like it.
the shopping centre i frequent is situated in broadmeadows, its an ever expanding complex, and i felt the need that day to step in and spend some of my hard earned cash, todays goodies including primarily cds and coffee. (i always budget myself when buying cds to a limit of two, however if its under ten dollars it can be paired with an additional bargain and account for one cd).

after buying what i wanted, i casually began to walk towards the exit of the building, not particularly paying attention to anything, sipping my coffee and feeling content with my purchases.
then all of a sudden i noticed something straight ahead, i was on a constant bearing with a dark haired, exotic, trendy looking/cool, dude, man wearing the exact same jumper as me!
clothing and fashion is an incredible subject. there are so many different things out there to wear, and you probably have a closet full of items that you love to put on, that make you feel great, that you've never seen on anybody else! some items even that others would flat out refuse to wear, i for instance am not accustomed to snake skin pants and denim vests.

but back to the jumper, like i said, ive had it for years and seeing this man approaching, wearing 'my jumper' was an honestly interesting happening.
clothes say a lot about people, and yet here were two seemingly completely different people with, you'd have to assume, different tastes, personalities, likes and dislikes.
yet we had enough in common to buy the exact same jumper, not only that but to keep it long enough to become (as mine has become to me) a 'prized piece' a 'silver dollar' jumper.
slightly romantic it may be, but my feelings nonetheless. still excited of the situation and the upcoming approach i decided to mark the occasion by, as he walked past, saying, 'hey guy, same jumper.'

i dont know what i could've expected from this, but it soon became clear that what in my mind was a meeting of two long lost relatives or even just a queer coincidence, was evidently in his mind, a 'clash of the jumpers', one that he would have to endure and hopefully forget forever, not before he tore the jumper to shreds, punishing it for disgracing him in a public place, ashamed by his own perceived originality.

'whatever man', thats what he said. if i didnt have hot coffee in my hand he might even have told me to 'fuck off' too. and that was it, i paused and dwelled on it for a second, momentarily glancing down at my precious jumper, still happy, still fitting.
i wondered how i should feel, if anything. even if i saw that guy again, i wouldnt recognize him because he most likely threw the jumper into an active volcano.
it was at this point that i realized that clothes can say a lot about a personality but never enough about the actual person.

  2. I always feel like a douche when Im wearing the same piece of clothing as someone I know at the same time. I made a mistake to let people know of this place that had cheap jackets, now me and 2 mates have the exact same jacket. I don't wear mine that much. You know Colm, you have a gift for story telling. Im looking forward to more of your blog entries. I'll see you around the net sometime.
